Home is where the art is…
Home is where the art is… was created solely from a group of items left behind by my father. Documents, newspaper clippings, old letters, photographs, cards all saved by him and stored in the drawer of his bedside table were picked through and printed. With today’s interest in documenting every aspect of someone’s life, I set out to do just that amongst my father’s things. Fascinated by society's appetite for celebrity magazines and captivated by our celebrity-obsessed culture, where if you die young or in a spectacular way you automatically get your 15 minutes of fame, I accepted my father’s own young death which allotted him a sense of his own ‘celebrity’ in my mind and within the context of my family. The result was a body of work documenting a personal history. The work fosters a perception of authentic human attachment and belonging and directly references family, place and history.
